A limited number of classes are held in the evenings during the summer at the Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center. Classes include:

Discover the exciting and contemplative world of plein air painting in this one day watercolor sketching workshop! The workshop will take place in Storybook Land and throughout Wylie Park, so there won’t be a lack of subject matter. Learn some basic watercolor techniques, then venture off to find inspiration to create! Rain date will be the following Saturday. Ages 14 and up.

Get ready for some smoke and fire! Raku is an exciting, yet unpredictable way to fire pottery. Spend 4 weeks making creations, one week to glaze, then poof! – fire in an outdoor kiln on the final week to pieces unobtainable from a regular kiln firing. Ages 16 and up.

This class will introduce high school students to working with clay sculpturally and on the potter’s wheel. Students will explore basic functional forms such as mugs, and bowls and sculpture techniques. Ages 14 and up.

For all puppies ages 3 months to 24 months old, this class emphasizes socialization between other canines as well as meeting new humans. We start the basic obedience regimen, we place high priority on reading body language between canines and canine to human. Learn to read what our canines are communicating. Intro to agility fun is introduced the last half of the session. Proof of puppy vaccinations and bordetella vaccination is required to attend.

Looking for a creative outlet as a way to combat stress? Look no further than our Open Studio! The Wellness Open Studio is a place to immerse yourself in creativity through Art Journaling, Coloring, Zentangle drawing or perhaps a project (painting, scrapbooking or sewing, etc.) to bring on your own! Journaling, Coloring and Zentangle supplies available; otherwise bring your own supplies. Ages 14 and up. No charge. This is a drop in activity.

Empty Bowls Aberdeen is sponsoring this is a one-day workshop that teaches how to create mugs from an extruder. Learn how to use an extruder, the care and cleaning of an extruder and best of all, discover the possibilities of using extruded shapes in your pottery work. Participants will make a mug to contribute to the “Empty Mugs” campaign that will be fired and glazed at a later date to support the “Empty Mugs” Event at the Celtic Faire in September. Ages 16 and up.
