Naloxone Project for First Responders

Wednesday, October 18, 2017

The SD DOH will educate first responders about the nationwide opioid crisis, symptomatology of an opioid overdose, general treatment and safety recommendations of patients suffering a suspected opioid overdose, potential side effects of handling these drugs, and treatment of peers should a responder be inadvertently exposed. The DOH will equip first responder agencies with Naloxone, a medication intended to reverse effects of an opioid overdose. WHO SHOULD ATTEND: First responders, including hospital staff, Emergency Medical Services, and law enforcement; specifically local sheriff's offices, police departments, and highway patrol agencies statewide.
