Low Impact Aerobic Exercise
The Low Impact Aerobic Exercise class features a warm-up period, an aerobic workout and stretching / toning movements. This four-week class is a simple, safe, and a fun way to stay in shape. Step training is also incorporated into the workout.

  • Time: 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
  • Date: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays
  • Instructor: Mary Hill
  • Fee: $14 per session (two days per week) or $18 per session (three days per week)
  • Enrollment: 10 minimum / 25 maximum participants per session

  • Session B: February 10 - March 6, 2014 (no class on February 17)
  • Session C:  March 10 - April 3, 2014

Women's Morning Exercise
Join us in this class of general exercise that emphasizes flexibility and general fitness.


  • Time: 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. 
  • Day: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
  • Location: Washington Street Gym
  • Instructor: Kathryn Moen & Anita Bonen
  • Fee: $10 per session

Ditch the workout - Join the party!  The Zumba program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one of a kind fitness program that will blow you away. 

Session A:  January 14 - February 21, 2014

Session B:  February 25 - April 11, 2014

Time:  (choose one) Tuesdays, 6:45-7:30 pm, Wednesdays, 5:20-6:05 pm or Fridays, 8:30-9:15 am.

Pilates Mat Classes
Pilates is a non-impact, body conditioning class.  The Pilates method is an exercise focused on improving flexibility and strength for the total body without building bulk.  Students will learn proper breathing and body alignment, improve concentration and keep muscle tone longer.

    • Tuesdays 7:40 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.
    • Thursdays 7:00 - 7:50 pm.       
  • Day: Tuesdays or Thursdays

  • Fee: $36 per session

March is Nutrition Month
Join us for two "My Plate" seminars on how to balance calories, choose foods to eat more often and which foods to cut back on.  A registered dietician from Sanford Aberdeen will discuss making food choices for a healthy lifestyle as well as simplified meal planning for busy families.  Ages 12 and up.

Session A:  Friday, March 7 6:30-7:30 pm

Session B:  Friday, March 28 noon to 1:00 pm

No charge, but pre-registration is necessary.  Pre-register three days before the start of the session.

World-Wide Tai Chi and Qi Quong Day
This annual April event is open to the general public and begins in the earliest time zone of Samoa at 10 am, and then participants across Oceania, Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and South America take part, with celebrations in eighty nations and several hundred cities, ending with the final events in the last time zone of Hawaii, almost an entire day later.  The theory is that on that day the world will awaken and experience a peaceful, soothing event as the sun rises around the world time zone by time zone.


  • Saturday, April 26 9:30 am - Instruction in 5 moves of Yang style Tai Chi
  • 10:00 am perform 5 moves of Yang style Tai Chi followed by short form Tai Chi.

Anyone interested in "trying" Tai Chi is welcome.  For more information, call (605)622-5979.

Tai Chi
Tai Chi "Flow Motion" classes are meditation in motion.  Six principles of Tai Chi include:  going slow, being relaxed, flowing movements, continuous movements, sinking down, balancing yin and yang.

  • Day: Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Location: Aberdeen Recreation & Cultural Center

  • Fee: $24 per session

Walk For Health
Monday through Friday, come to Washington Street Gym at 401 North Washington Street and walk for health.  The gym will be open from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and there is no charge.

Seniors Open Gym
The Washington Street Gym will be open for seniors to shoot hoops and play basketball.  Come give it a try!  Available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 am to 12:30 p.m.  Runs January 14 thru March 27, 2014.
