South Dakota author Brenda Donalen will be visiting the Alexander Mitchell Public Library Tuesday, April 14th at 7:00PM as part of the National Library Week events. Holiday Homicide, 2nd book in the University Mystery Series, will be the focus of the author’s presentation. There will be copies available for purchase at this event.
Brenda Donelan is a life-long resident of South Dakota. She grew up on a cattle ranch in Stanley County, attended college in Brookings, and worked in Aberdeen as a probation officer and later as a college professor. Currently, she resides in Sioux Falls.
Earth Day Event: The Impact of Earth Day on Aberdeen
Join us Wednesday, April 22nd at 7:00PM at the Public Library for a program celebrating the 45th
Anniversary of Earth Day and learn the impact it has had locally. Peggi Badten, Water Reclamation Plant Superintendent, will be giving a presentation about how our local Water Reclamation Facility (Wastewater Plant) is a direct result of the Clean Water Act, brief history of the plant, how the facility cleans water, the improved water quality of Moccasin Creek and the abundant wildlife seen out at the plant throughout the year.
Paint Escape! At the Library
Social artwork at its finest! Thursday, May 7th, 6:30-8:30 PM, $12 per person. Paint Escape is a class/program designed to start with a trendy canvas art pattern and all the supplies and after a few hours of laughter and fun, everyone will leave with a work of art that they created themselves. There will be spring inspired eats and drinks provided. Local artist extraordinaire Lora Schaunaman will be the instructor. Perfect for Mother’s Day or a special date night. Calling all people who love to talk about food-home cooks and self-proclaimed foodies of all experience levels! The Public Library has started a Cooking Club. This unique club will provide you with the outlet to share this love with people who have the exact same passion. No more need to talk endlessly about the intricacies of food to a bewildered spouse or family member; use the club to get this out of your system!

Journey to England, Haiti, Antarctica and Cuba just by visiting the Public Library during its new series called Traveler’s Tales. This series gives people the opportunity to share their traveling experiences with community as well as giving others the chance to get insight to other cultures without leaving the zip code. Traveler’s Tales presentations will be the fourth (4th) Thursday of January, February, March and April 2015.
