National Night Out
First Tuesday in August
Each year on the first Tuesday in August, neighborhoods throughout Aberdeen are invited to join forces with 15,000 communities worldwide for the annual National Night Out
crime and drug prevention event. Now in its 27th year, National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive, and enjoyable program to promote community and police partnerships in our fight for a safer community and nation.
The National Night Out is designed to:
Celebrate at Melgaard Park
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
- Generate support and participation for local anti-crime programs
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police / community partnerships
- Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back
Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, Aberdeen’s residents are invited to celebrate National Night Out at Melgaard Park. Many local and county agencies will be on hand with information on volunteering, social programs, safety, and crime prevention. There will also be games, food, and prizes.
Additional Suggested Activities
In addition to the Melgaard Park festivities, individual neighborhoods are encouraged to celebrate National Night Out with a variety of events and activities, including block parties, cookouts, contests, flashlight walks, parades, and more.
