Facility and Picnic Shelter Reservations

 Looking for a special place to hold your event?  The Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department offers many beautiful parks to choose from, each with picnic shelters and park facilities that are ideal for hosing a variety of events.  Whether it’s a family or company picnic, birthday party or business meeting, reserving a park facility for your event has many advantages.

• Reservations guarantee your group’s exclusive use of a particular site.
• Picnic shelters provide a nice, comfortable shaded place to host summertime gatherings.
• Each park facility has seating to accommodate many different group sizes.
• Barbecue grills are available at most facilities, making it easy to grill your favorite foods outdoors.
• Maintenance service is provided before your event assisting you in making sure the facility and surrounding area are in clean condition.

 How to Reserve a Park Facility/Picnic Shelter

Reservations are made throughout the year and can be made five years in advance of your event.  Reservations are made on a first come, first serve basis.  Call the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department office for rates and availability of sites. 605-626-7015

 Where to Make Reservations

Reservations are made in person at the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department office, 225 SE 3^rd Avenue, Aberdeen, or by calling the office at 605-626-7015.  Payment must be received prior to your event.

 Reservation Times-Picnic Shelters and the Birdhouse

Half Day: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Full Day: 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

 Cleanup

The rental party is responsible for the general cleanup of the area insuring the tables are clean, litter is in the receptacles and the rental facility is left in a relatively orderly fashion.  Should the rental party fail to adequately clean the facility; an additional cleanup fee will be assessed to offset the cost of cleaning the facility.

 Wylie Park

One of the most popular parks in Aberdeen is Wylie Park.  This 200 acre park offers a wide variety of rental shelter options to accommodate your event.  There are many attractions at the park for your family’s enjoyment. 

 Wylie Pavilion is an enclosed facility with restrooms, a kitchen with sink, stove and refrigerator and pass thru window and elevated stage.  The facility has 33 tables and 265 chairs but will accommodate up to 572 people.

The Pavilion rents at $30 per hour, $115 per day or $400 for the week.

 Storybook Land Castle is available to rent for group picnics, receptions and special events.  The picnic plaza area adjacent on the north side of the Castle and will accommodate up to 125 people.  The Castle may be rented in the time blocks 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. 

The Castle rental rates are as follows:

            Small group (25 and under)                   $28 per time block

            Medium group (26-75 people)  $65 per time block

            Large Group (over 75 people)              $100 per time block

 Campground Lodge Meeting Room is located in the northwest corner of the Campground Lodge Building.  The room will accommodate up to 36 people, there are restroom facilities in the lodge and there are patio doors from the meeting room to the outdoor picnic patio which has shade structures and picnic tables.  The room rents for $40 per time block or $80 for the full day.  The time blocks for the Lodge Meeting Room are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. or for the full day 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

 Storybook Land Visitor Center Meeting Rooms are part of the new Visitor Center facility.  There are two meeting rooms which will accommodate up to 30 people in each room, the rooms are air-conditioned, and there is a five foot counter with a sink in each room.  There is access to an outdoor picnic patio from each room and is available on a first come-first serve basis.  The picnic patio has shade structures and picnic tables.  Each room rents for $34 per time block or $68 for the full day.  The time blocks for the Visitor Center Meeting Rooms are 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. or for the full day 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

 Birdhouse is an enclosed facility with a refrigerator and tables and chairs to accommodate 70 people.  The Birdhouse rents for $34 per time block or $68 for the day.

 Wylie Park Picnic Shelters are covered picnic shelters.  There are six covered picnic shelters which can be rented at Wylie Park.  The reserved shelters have a grill, picnic tables and electricity on the site.  The picnic shelters rent at $20 per time block or $35 for the day.  There are additional picnic shelters scattered throughout Wylie Park that are considered first come-first serve picnic shelters.  Please contact the Parks and Recreation office for additional information on these shelters 605-626-7015.

 Melgaard Park

Melgaard Park is 25 acres and offers a picnic shelter that is available for rent.  The park features a campground, playgrounds, horseshoe courts, skate park, tennis courts and much more.

 Melgaard Park Picnic Shelter rents at $18 per time block (half day) or $30 for the full day.
