Biosolids

Removing Solids from the Wastewater

Sludge digestion uses anaerobic conditions along with heating and mixing to stabilize the solids that are removed from the wastewater. The solids come from the settling activity in the primary and final clarifiers. The stabilized solids are referred to as biosolids. The biosolids are disposed of by applying the solids to farm ground as a soil amendment.

The nutrients in the biosolids are analyzed and used to calculate the agronomic application rate just like any other type of soil amendment.
