Youth Programs (Birth - 2nd Grade)
Read by the Slice!
The K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library and Danger Von Dempsey’s are giving away free pizzas to area children, 5 – 18 years old, through the Read by the Slice reading program. Beginning January 1, 2023, participants can register for the Read by the Slice program by using the READSquared library app. For every 800 minutes read, children will receive a free 8”pizza. Participants can pick up their coupon at the Public Library and redeem for an 8” pizza at Dempsey’s, 1023 S. Main St, Aberdeen, SD. Children do not have to have a library card or go to school in the Aberdeen school district to participate. All books qualify.

All Together Now – Library Summer Reading Program, June 1st – July 31st
Enjoy a summer of reading and library programs. Earn points towards weekly prize drawings. Download the library’s new reading app, READsquared to participate. Mini-games, bingo, and activities all available through the new reading app. Everyone is welcome to join in the summer fun! PreK, K-2nd, TWEEN, TEEN and Adults!

Bingo Game: Is our traditional summer reading game just not enough? Well, you’re in luck! Our Family Bingo Game returns! Families participate and complete reading-related tasks throughout the summer. For every row completed (vertical, horizontal, diagonal), they receive one raffle ticket towards our grand prize, a Family Activity Basket (valued at $100) filled with DVDs, Allevity gift cards, microwavable popcorn and more!
GAME RULES
PRE-K GAME
This is a fun, simple, and free way to start your child on the path to success! Get a prize for every 30 books they read. Up to 120 books. This includes being read to, and audio books.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GAMES
Reading is as unique as the child holding the book. Some are strong right out of the gate, and some need a little extra help. At K.O. Lee we’ve tried to shape our Children’s Summer Reading programs to be as accommodating to every type of reader as possible, breaking it down by grades, as well as opening up the different formats a child can read, and how they read.
Grades K-2
Grades K-2 will get a prize for every 10 books they read. Up to 40 books. Once completed, they’re done for the summer. This includes being read to, and audio books.
All Together Now Story Time! - Wednesdays at 10:00AM, June 7th - July 26th - Preschool Age
Bring your lawn chair or blanket this summer for our all together now and kindness-themed Story Time! Story Time will be held in our outdoor area or inside depending on the weather. This program focuses on preschool-age children, but all ages are welcome. No registration required and caregivers are required to attend. No program on June 28th and July 5th.
Grades K-2
Kids will explore diversity and teamwork-themed STEM crafts. Kits are a first-come, first-served.
Community Rocks: Paint your own rock with a special message to place around Aberdeen for others to share.
Will be available on the following dates: Tuesday, June 6th at 5:00PM and Saturday, June 10th at 12:00PM (same kit both times).
LEGO Club
Let’s play some games, challenges and more!!

Story Time in the Parks -- Thursdays
The library is bringing Story Time to you directly after meal distribution from the Salvation Army at neighborhood parks. We will be at a different park each week. The program is geared toward preschool ages, but all are welcome. Story Time In The Parks is held in partnership with K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library, Salvation Army, and Aberdeen Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department.
