Summer Reading Programs 2022

Oceans of Possibilities – Library Summer Reading Program, June 1st – July 31st

Dive in and enjoy a summer of reading and library programs. Earn points towards weekly prize drawings. Download the library’s new reading app, READsquared to participate. Mini-games, bingo, and activities all available through the new reading app. Paper versions will be available at the library. Everyone is welcome to join in the summer fun! PreK, K-2nd, TWEEN, TEEN and Adults!

Story Time – Wednesdays, 10am, June 1st – July 31st, Preschool Age

Bring your lawn chair or blanket this summer for our ocean and animal-themed Story Time! Story Time will be held in our outdoor area or inside depending on the weather. This program focuses on preschool-age children, but all ages are welcome. No registration required and caregivers are required to attend. No program on July 6th.


The library is bringing Story Time to you directly after meal distribution from the Salvation Army at neighborhood parks. We will be at a different park each week. The program is geared toward preschool ages, but all are welcome. No program July 7th. Story Time In The Parks is held in partnership with K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library, Salvation Army, and Aberdeen Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department.

K-2nd Programs

Take & Makes - Kids will explore ocean-themed STEM crafts and will be available at the Children’s Desk on the following dates: Tuesdays, June 7 and July 26 at 5:00PM. Kits are first-come, first-served.

June 7th - Aquarium Box -- Make your own aquarium at home with this kit. The great thing about this kit is it doesn't require water and you don't have to feed the fish!

July 26th - Magic Color Scratch Fish Ornaments - scratch your fish to make a really cool design on it and you can use it as an ornament or a gift tag!

In-Person Program – June 21 at 10:00AM – Ocean Snacks: Make some yummy ocean themed snacks to chomp on. You can eat them here or take them with you! No registration.

In-Person Program -- July 12 at 10:00AM – Ocean Water Games: Enjoy some ocean-themed water games and play island hop. Plan to get soaked! No registration.

LEGO Club – Let’s play some games, challenges and more on June 14, 28 and July 19 at 10:00AM. No registration.

TWEEN (3rd-5th) Programs

Take & Makes – Tweens will explore ocean-themed STEM crafts and will be available at the Children’s Desk on the following dates: Tuesdays, June 14 and July 26 at 5:00PM. Kits are first-come, first-served. 

June 14 - Ocean Animal Scratch Art - Bring the ocean to life with these vivid color scratch shapes. Design your own unique pattern then scratch away the black surface to reveal rainbows of color underneath.

July 26 - Aquarium Box Craft Kit – Create a mini aquarium with this fun ocean-themed diorama kit! No routine tank cleaning required!

In-Person Program – June 28 at 10:00AM – Water Bottle Sea Creature: Design your own imaginative sea creature from recycled materials.

In-Person Program -- July 19 at 10:00AM – Tissue Paper Watercolor: Participants use bleeding tissue paper to create a beautiful watercolor background then choose an ocean themed silhouette to put on top. 

LEGO Club -- Let’s get creative and play some games, challenges and more on June 7, 21 and July 12 at 10:00AM. 

Coding Club (4th-8th Grade) – Wednesdays at 10AM

Explore the wonder of coding using the popular Scratch programming language from MIT. Create something new each week. There will be original challenges and projects. No prior programming experience is required, but students should be comfortable using a mouse, keyboard, and web browser. Registration is required at No program July 6th.

TEEN (6th-12th) Programs

Take & Makes -- Teens will explore ocean-themed STEM crafts and will be available at the Children’s Desk on the following dates: Tuesdays, June 14, 28 and July 19 at 5:00PM. Kits are first-come, first-served.

June 14 – Card Trick Fun and Games – Amaze your friends with these cool card tricks then challenge them to a fun new game.

June 28 – CD Case Labyrinth - This CD case labyrinth is the perfect activity for long car rides, to play on a rainy afternoon, or to challenge your friends to see who can finish fastest. Make it as easy or challenging as you want!

July 19 – Thumb Tack Paper Lantern - Create something spectacular with a simple thumb tack and some paper! These festive decorations are sure to add some beauty and light to your space.

In-Person Program – July 26th at 10:00AM – Wacky Wild Water Games: Have a whale of a good time playing a variety of ocean-themed games. Plan to get soaked!
