Registration Information
Programs are filled on a first-pay, first-served basis, preregistration by the published deadline is required. Payment can be made by credit or debit card by phone or by check or cash in person. Online Registration also available. All classes are subject to 6.5% sales tax. Please call the Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center for more information at 626-7081.
Registration for Summer Programs begins on Tuesday, May 2, 7:00 a.m.
LOOM WEAVING
Learn several aspects of weaving and setting up a multiple harness loom from warp calculations to fully dressing it. Each student will have a loom to set up and work on. Classes range from Beginning Weaving; Advanced Beginning Weaving; to Individual Study; Beginning students will weave a small hand towel. Advanced Beginning Students will weave a small table runner. Individual Study projects depend on what the student wishes to learn and weave. There is a material fee of $20 or more depending on project chosen payable to the instructor. The ARCC has 15 looms available for students but each session is limited to 4 students.

OPEN POTTERY STUDIO
The pottery studio will be open for use during off-class times for practice with hand building, wheel throwing and other projects involving stoneware, chads bod, or earthenware clay. Clay fees include clay, glaze, and one bisque and glaze firings, (excluding alternative firings). Open Studio hours are Wednesdays, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Ages: high school students through adult. Open pottery studio participants must schedule an appointment for orientation prior to working in the studio, as well as sign in at the front desk, each time prior to utilizing the studio space.

ART BREAK
Keep your mind and spirit healthy! Come to the ARCC for some drop in, DIY art therapy through self-directed activities! Studies have shown that Art can take your mind off of what is stressing you. The Open Studio sessions are not product oriented – just enjoy the process! Activities can vary from art journaling, coloring, creative drawing from pattern recognition, scrapping, zentangle art, and creative writing. Or work on your own projects brought from home, and work in a relaxing stress-free atmosphere. Sessions meet weekly. Some supplies are provided for activities listed, or you may bring your own in! Remember – we aren’t concerned about creating works of art (although it may be a by-product), just the act of letting our activity take us away! Ages 18 and up.

NEW! JEET KUNE DO FOR YOUTH
With this 8-week class youth participants will learn Jeet Kune Do, developed by Bruce Lee, incorporating moves and techniques from multiple other martial arts styles. Jeet Kune Do emphasizes simplicity, directness, and economy of motion, not form or techniques. It’s easier to learn since there are no hard-and-fast rules. Participants will gain self-confidence as they begin to recognize and use basic survival instincts and natural reactions in potentially threatening situations. Participants should wear clothes suitable for low impact exercise.

FIGHT BACK SELF-DEFENSE
Participants will begin to learn Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do in this 8-week class. Jeet Kune Dos’ effectiveness lies in breaking traditional rules of martial arts, making use of what is effective and useful to each individual person rather than following a prescribed set of rules. Focus will be practical hands-on applications for real life situations helping participants gain self-confidence as they begin to recognize and use basic survival instincts and natural reactions in potentially threatening situations. Participants should wear clothes suitable for low impact exercise. Ages 17 and up.

PHOTOGRAPHY ON LOCATION
An introduction to digital photography on location. Take a stroll through downtown Aberdeen with Alethiea and Jerome while learning some of the basic rules of photography; including the use of the camera, lighting, composition, as well as tricks and tips for different situations and how to tell a story with your photography. Perfect for all areas of photographic interest. Ages 14 and up. *Participants under 18 must have parental permission to attend classes off the ARCC campus, and all participants must have a DSLR camera to use.

NEW! WET FELTED HUMMINGBIRD PICTURE
In this class we will be advancing slightly beyond normal wet felting techniques to create a large, gorgeous hummingbird picture. Artist and author, Melony Rae, will introduce you to wet felting using various fibers, including wool and silk. Some minor needle felting will be utilized to finish. The ending project has a beautiful, watercolor-like look perfect to frame and brighten any room! Ages 14 and up.

NEW! INTRODUCTION TO NEEDLE FELTED SCULPTURE 'TOMTEN'
Artist Melony Rae will teach basic fiber sculpting techniques. The class will create (1) Tomten or Gnome from various wools and silk, complete with glass eyes. The Tomten hold a special place in any home and Melony will brief the class on the history of Tomten in the Scandinavian culture. Ages 16 and up.

NEW! HAND CASTING
Participants will create a plaster cast of their own hand for the first week, and then in the second week they will be able to paint and personalize their hand. Ages 12 and up.

ADULT TAP DANCE
Join us for an evening of rhythm, music, and fun! This will be a medium-paced class, perfect for those who have taken a session of Beginning Adult Tap Dance or for those with other previous experience.

NEW! SUMMERTIME JAZZ DANCE CLASS FOR ADULTS
Move, groove, and dance your stress away in jazz class for adults! Class includes a simple warm-up, basic steps, some fun choreography, and a cool-down. Both new and experienced dancers are welcome; the focus of this class is on moving our bodies in a supportive space and having fun! Jazz shoes are recommended and are available for loan or purchase through the ARCC.
