Responsibilities

The Building Inspection Department is responsible for ensuring that all commercial and residential construction meets the minimum standards of the following codes:

  • 2009 American National Standard Institute (ANSI) for Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities
  • 2018 International Building Code
  • 2018 International Existing Building Code 
  • 2018 International Mechanical Code 
  • 2018 International Property Maintenance Code
  • 2018 International Residential Code
  • 2015 South Dakota Version of the Uniform Plumbing Code

Where Do I obtain a building permit?

Obtaining a building permit requires applying at the Building, Planning, Zoning, and Code Enforcement office in City Hall located at 123 South Lincoln Street, and payment of a fee*. It may be helpful to view our forms online to see what information will be requested concerning your particular project.
